New Emergency Department Opens at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center

News & Insights

The new Jaromír Střížka Emergency Department at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, has recently opened, featuring signage, wayfinding, environmental graphics and public art designed by Altitude Design Office. Envisioned to better meet the current volume of patients and accommodate future growth for the San Fernando Valley, the 48-bed, 34,500 square-foot facility is three times the size of the Medical Center’s previous ER, but it’s designed with layers of small details and subtle textures so that this high-performance facility won’t feel like a typical hospital. It’s also unique because the $78 million cost of this ground-up new building was entirely funded by nearly 3,000 donors, who deserve to be recognized with a meaningful program of artistic installations that identify and honor each gift.
