After years of planning and design, City of Hope Orange County will open its new Cancer Hospital to patients on December 1, 2025, officially becoming the place of healing, discovery and hope that’s been envisioned for so long. The grand opening comes three years since the opening of the adjacent Lennar Foundation Cancer Center and completes an 11-acre campus with Orange County’s first and only hospital specializing in cancer treatment.
Altitude Design Office designed the buildings’ integrated signage and wayfinding system, working closely with the architects and with clinical staff to prioritize the experience of patients and caregivers with a minimal, hospitality-oriented design that balances the need to be clear and highly visible with the desire to be reassuring and calming.
As the Los Angeles Times reports, City of Hope recently invited cancer survivors and others to preview the new hospital with a tour of the 190,000-square-foot facilities.
“It feels more like a five-star hotel,” and “you don’t feel like you’re in a hospital, you feel like you’re in a comfortable space,” were among the comments heard by cancer survivors on the tour. “When you’re comfortable and your family is comfortable, and you don’t have to worry about that, it certainly helps the healing process,” another survivor said. “The details that they put into this are going to help a lot of people.”
